Rear exterior door handle no workey.. 2000 civic lx
I searched and found a couple different threads on the subject, but for different years. I think one was '93-'97, and the other '03 and up. Same design in a 2000?
The right rear exterior door handle just quit working out of nowhere.. This is my girlfriend's Civic guys, I've got to fix it... she's kinda flipping out about it. Mainly because I fix my dodge no problem when something breaks... but I pull the door panel off of this civic and I'm like "WTF?" the handle looks impossible to get to! Maybe the glass has to come out to make this easier? And what am I looking for, a rod disconnected?
I've been a member of my dodge forums for 8 years and I'm pretty good at fixing car, but as far as this Honda goes... I'm a noob!
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! TIA! -Ed

It's the 1996-2000 sedans that have this problem. There's a little plastic piece that connects the rod to the handle, and it sucks.
You have to unscrew/move the child lock, and then it's only a PITA instead of impossible lol. You don't need to take the glass out.

Thanks. This little plastic piece, is it broken in most cases? Or has it just popped off?

eh, 50/50 chance that it's broken. Only way to know is to get in there. 2 of mine have broken so far, and I have the same car.
This might help you. You can download the complete factory service manual online in .pdf format for free. Go here and download the zip file, then unzip. Many others on the forum use this as a resource.

^ My old 97 Civic and my current 99 Civic have had both doors break. There's been at least three threads on here about them, and a friend in town just told hers broke....at least it's just a door handle and not your brakes
It isn't a complicated fix, It's just time consuming....I used a circular clip to fix the doors, hasn't failed me yet.
