Go to a hardware store and tell them that this: 8x1.25 is the size machine screw that "should" fit the hole but it doesn't. So then as for a self-tapping screw that is slightly larger that the 8x1.25. There are manly self tapping screw to choose from. I suggest a fine thread screw. Good luck!

If you use self-tapping screws, you could RUIN the mounting area. You just need to find the right screws. If the screws you have are too small, go to the hardware store and get some slightly larger ones. If they're too long, get some shorter ones. Two little screws shouldn'tcost you more than a buck.
If the threads in the mounting point nuts are destroyed, you may be able to run a tap through them and useslightly larger screws. I also use washers on the screws when mounting my plates.
