Default Rear wing cracked

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum and was hoping someone could help me out. I am having an issue with the rear wing on my 06 Si cracking. I have taken it to the dealer once before about 3 weeks ago and they replaced the rear wing under warranty. To my suprise, the rear wing is cracked again in the exact same place and the dealer will not replace it again!! Is anyone else having this same problem and if it could be a factory defect or am I doing something wrong. No, I have not slammed the trunk or leaned on it at all and the trunk has only been opened 3 times since the first replacement and I do not use the wing to close the trunk. The cracks are in the red circle and it one on each side of the wing.

Thanks
Les

Where is the crack in relation to the mounting screws? I am wondering if the holes in the trunk where a bit off and thus putting strain on the spoiler and causing it to crack.

Now just to ask, your not driving like over 130mph or anything weird like that are you? ROFL Cause that is the only other thing that I could see causing this.

Oh and welcome to the forum. Hope we can help you this time and that you stick around.

The cracks are on the front edge of the wing where it mounts to the decklid. I have added 2 more pics totry and clarify the location. Yes the car has seen tripple digits but not quite that fast and only in a controlled situation . IMHO if downforce is the cause, thenit sould be a factory defect because that's what the wing is designed to do. The dealer claims that I have slammed the trunk which is not true. This is ashow/demo carsowe take extreme care of it.

sounds to me like the wing was just overtightened. so the bolts are trying to PULL the wing thru the deck lid which over alittle time it breaks.

^^^ Yeah that was kinda what I was thinking. Like it wasn't installed right. Because fiberglass has very little torsional strength. And so is cracking due to misalignment.

Thanks for the replies and I tend to agree also but I have had no luck getting the dealer (who replaced the first one under warranty) admit to it. Also, is there supposed to be some sort of gasekt between the wing mounts and the decklid? I dont remember seeing any on the original wing but there are some spacers/washers between the new wing and the deck lid but only on the center support, not the edges where is is cracked. To me, it seems that this would cause the wing to bow. I have an appointment with the dealer this week so they can look at it again and will post when I get an answer.

Thanks
Les

ya it should have those gaskets under every mounting spot! i say your dealership has some shady/ghetto instalers that dont know what they were doing! common sense is put a gasket under every mounting point.... otherwise it will also rip up the paint on those sides....

UPDATE-- I have an apointment with the dealer this Saturday. I just returned from a trip in the car this week end and was taking pictures of the wing again and noticed that the decklid itself is cracked!! The crack is located on the center mount where the dealer added spacers when they replaced the wing. Could this be possibe from an improperly installed wing? I have looked at other SI's and the wing does not appear tohavespacers between the mounts and the decklid on any of the mounting points.

I just returned from the dealer(couldn't let this go anymore) and they did agree that the cracking was due to stress but never admited to being at fault for installing the wing improperly. They are ordering a new decklid and wing under warranty andshould be installed next week.Hopefully this will solve my problemsandI wont have to do this again. Thanks to thosewho had advisebut I'm still wondering what caused the original wing to crack because (according to the dealer) I'm the only one having this problem.

Thanks
Les
