Default Smog & Straight excaust PiPES

After enjoying the aem v2 in my 05 manual ex now, I been wanted to take all the junk out from excaust system and install straight pipes with new header and etc. But the question is passing the smog test. I have this car for more den 3 yrs now with 65 K miles on it and haven't asked for smog test from DMV in california state. How often does dmv require the smog test? Is there any way to passthe smogwith straight excaust pipes. How much hp would ma car gain approximantly? Where can search for right equipments and installation. Is this something i can do my self or there is welding involve...?? Is it really worth of it??How aboutthe sound?how much am i looking at to spend? Is there anybody who have done this..??? Let me know how much u ppl know about it?? THANX A BUNCHH>>....

which straight pipes from the header back, no, theres no way you could pass. You won't have a cat, and thast what deals iwth your emissions. Its hard to keep things legal in Cali, and straight pipes is just about the most illegal exhaust system out there. It will probably sound like sh*t (if its REALLY straight pipes with no cat or muffler), and it'll get annoying real quick, not to mention the gains aren't anything good over a nice sounding cat-back exhaust (which would techinically keep your car legal since oyu still have a cat, and it woudlnt sound like chit). I say keep your cat and just get a nice Apex'i, GReddy or RSR catback system.

^ dito....

but if you want to try it you BETTER KEEP THE STOCK EXHAUST! that way when dmv does want you to smog you can slap up the stock system, get smoged and then swap it back or what not ... BUT your car will still probably be a cop magnet with how loud it will be and im preaty sure they can write you tickets with just looking at the car parts on the car...

if you truely want to modify the car might i suggest moving to another state.LOL

I'd suggest a flow-thru cat, like from Random Technologies.Add a decent header and catback and you'll flow just fine, while still being 50-state legal. You also don't have to be pissing off the people around you.

soo i assume there is noone with straight pipes there.?? I wonderhow often does dmv require the smog test??.... I do agree with addiction2bass..that keep the stock excaust and replace when it comes to smog test...but isn't there welding involve?? check this out this is 2 1/4 inch straigt from headers with good sounding muffler... this sounds dopee.. i want to do some like this.. i have exact same car . ..
