Default Trunk light on dashboard stays on

Vehicle is a 94 civic lx.

I'm not sure if the sensor is bad or what. Sometimes I slam the trunk shut and it want stay locked. Even if I get it to lock the light on my dashboard stays on. Any ideas?

The trunk light switch is built into the trunk latch, but first try adjusting the trunk.

I'll try adjusting it. I just hope the light turns off.

First check that the alignment is good left to right. With the trunk fully closed, there should be the same gap on both sides of the lid to the car body. Moving the striker down will make it easier to latch. The light indicates that it is not fully latched.

If the open trunk light is on on the dash, then the trunk light is on too. If your car sits too long you will have a dead battery.
