Default VTEC ?

I have a 00 ex coupe.

i read that vtec does not kick in til about 4k rpm?

is this true?

so basically vtec is only for when you are shifting at high revs, correct?

my civic is non-vtec for now....but ive heard it kicks in about 50-55mph so i guess high rpms....but if you get a vtec controller you can change that

VTEC runs off of oil pressure and on SOHC VTEC motors it comes on between 5500-5700 i believe but it has nothing to do with your MPH.

its all rpm range around 5000 v-tec kicks in thats why alot of people double clutch to get the v-tec kicking sooner

even if u get a vtec controller and have it kick in at 2,000RPM it isnt goin to do much to a stock motor. If u have forced induction then its worth it, but putting a vtec controller on a stock motor is kinda stupid.

first off, you cant set ure vtec controller to 2000, it just doesnt go that low, secondly, you wouldnt want to cause it would make ure high rpms where our cars really perform good, all ****ty. If youve got h/i/e and put a vtec control in it, you feel a little power gain, but if you really want it to do you good, go get on a dyno and have it tuned, its just like chipping ure ecu pretty much.

vtec (the big lobe) will only make power at high rpms. the bigger cam profile you run, the less low-end power you will have. so if you have vtec kick in too low, it will hurt your power, not help it. its set pretty close to where it makes the best power, right from the factory. so unless you have some pretty extensive mods done, dont bother with it, and when you decide that its time, try to get a pigyback or standalone fuel management system and get it on a dyno.
