i kno what vtec stands for but how do u kno when it kicks in. and how do u activate it. do i have it?

(98 ex coupe 5spd)

yea u have it.......the ex has it. U can get a VTEC controller and lower the RPM it kicks in at.......but its not worth it unless uve got a lot of modifications for ur motor.....powergain wont be extensive and not worth the $

its been awhile since ive seen the figure, but i believe its around 4500 rpm roughly

really hard to tell in a single cam. If you have exhaust or an intake you will hear the tone change around 5500 RPMs. Not really worht it to just lower it becuase it is more than a cam profile switch, it also changes fuel curves and stuff.

you should start pulling harder in the upper range of rpm's, at least thats how i know its kicking in my SOHC

how would i go about wiring a led light to indicate it kicking in
(i have the cool looking blue led i want to mount next to the guages)

Its simple....the fat green wire going to the VTEC actulator next to the dizzy is 12V and sends power for VTEC...tap into that

THe way I can feel it go on is in the following manner. There is an uphill onramp to the freeway nearest my house. I get in third when I should be in second so my acceleration is slower. I then floor it and then you will feel it gradually getting faster then when it hits a certain rpm you really feel the difference and it starts pulling and then you know.
