Does anyone know what that means?
Is there anywhere to look on the engine to get a number that tells you what engine it is?

Thanks in advance!!
It might help to post some pictures of the engine at a few different angles.

I'm not sure if the engine is a VTEC or not. Does anyone know what the module is with the blue sticker that is not hooked up with anything? I've seen pics that have the VTEC engine have that module, but nonVTEC engines do not. What does that mean? Is it possible that I have the original block with a VTEC head, or vice versa? I also have a pic with the number stamped on the block, it is located next to the exhaust manifold. Let me know if you need more pics?

Thanks!!

That number is on the head. The number on the block will be further down, the mount seems to be in the way.

Seeing no cover on the timing belt points up someone did a really, really, shoddy job of the engine swap. Shoddy I say! If anything falls in there, your timing belt will be toast, followed shortly by your valves.

I think that thing with the sticker is the VTEC solenoid but not sure about that.

Edit: could also be an EGR valve with lift sensor. Anyway it needs to be plugged into something.

The engine does have a timing belt cover...its black , so it looks like the timing belt.

Here is your picture. The yellow square is where your engine code is located.

We thought it was a D17A1, the usual for a 7th gen LX. My sister has an 02 LX, so I snapped a pic of her engine bay. Let's compare.

Note the absence of that blue sticker thing. I am 100% certain my sister's engine is a D17A1 because I just looked at the engine code. This makes me think yours might be a D17A2 VTEC engine that doesn't have the VTEC part wired up, effectively making it work as a D17A1. Perhaps the person who did the swap didn't swap wiring harnesses or computers or whatever is necessary to complete the swap? Though I'm even uncertain about that because the A2 has VTEC written on the plastic part of the valve cover under the word Honda...

Thanks for the yellow square...I cleaned off the engine block and it says I have a D17A1.
I think I must have a VTEC head though because of the blue sticker thing. THANK YOU everyone for your help!!

Actually I'm pretty positive that, that "blue labeled thing" is the EGR.... The Vtec Solenoid would be at about the 1 o'clock position from the egr, one the back (toward the firewall) side of the head, on the same end of the head as the EGR... Now, I COULD be wrong....been a lil bit since I was under the hood of an 01+ and also, I cant remember what year/model they did or didnt put an egr on which one for sure... Once again, Its been a while.

a d17a1 is non vtec so i'd say someone put a d17a2 head on it
