Any thoughts on if these are any good?
what if you run over something that would otherwise be minor, but it bumps the valve and all your oil spills out. lol

i wouldn't trust that valve for reasons that trust said. sure it does make changing oil more efficient but don't see them selling at my auto parts store, wouldn't really trust a internet to sell me one of those. personally i would not get it unless someone uses it and recommends them to me.

So trust, i'm thinking that 3.5 quarts should be exactly enough?

yea but i'd do what RonJ said, which is the method I will be using for now on: to add 3 quarts, and then after that add a little at a time and let it settle and check the dipstick, and fill as needed while continuously letting it settle and checking the dipstick. Letting it settle should only take a minute or so.
Also, don't forget to take into account that if you are only jacking up part of the car, to check the level you must lower the car, because when the front is jacked up only, the dipstick will read lower than what it is.

I just ordered one. I guess I'll be the first to have one on my Civic. People on the Scooby forums love these things.
After peeking under my honda, I'm sure I can do an oil change without tools and without jacking it up.

I always used a floorjack to change the oil. I even remove the driver side front tire to help reach the oil filter. I use this method both on my 97 and my girlfriends 02 civic. When I had an Accord, I didn't need a jack. I was able to crawl under the car and reach for the filter.

The valve seems a little scary, I would think some road debris can knock that valve loose especially if your car was lowered.

I'll take some pictures of it when I get it installed. The company claims it will outlast the engine. Of course judging by the block problems on the 'o6-'o7s that I've been reading about that might not be saying much if the 'o8s have the same block.
