what it says.... WTF is this stuff? is it factory? my friends civic has it on his rear wheel arch BUT mine doesnt... i asume previous owner removed it when he painted the car.... but what is it for? to help seal the arch way to prevent rusting on the arch? or what?


the one side of my fender lip is rusted away..... so instead of welding new steel inplace id prefere to just clean up the metal and seal it and put this thing around it so you cannt tell it was ever damaged......

 

Hmm is it this stuff you're talking about?

idk what its for...but I would like the answer as well...mine still has it, but its not staying on very well any more. It kinda looks to me like all its for is to protect the tire from the inside edge of the lip (if it rubbed w/o it I could see some serious sidewall dmg happening)....that said if that is all its for...I'll remove it, clean it up, and roll the lip up.

 

I've heard that Honda put it on there because someone cut themselves on the inner edge of the fender and sued. So they started to put that rubber protector piece on. I've heard that it is that added rubber piece that holds moisture in and causes the typical rear fender rust.

 

I know mine has caught a lot of crap up there. Partly why it doesnt stay on any more...too much dirt built up.

 

ooooooo ok.... so probably not a good idea.....

it looks preaty much like a edger so i could see how it would be put thier if people tried sueing over it not thier.....

guess ill just have to repair it.... tho after i do im gonna truck bed lining the crap outta the inner fenders! but wont be doing that till spring.

 

Take it off, I've heard from many people that it causes lots of rust

 

yeah the imfamous rust strips.

get rid of them and never put them back.
