Default why not the k20

around the forum ive noticed that most people talk about b series motors and of course the infamous H22 but where does the k20 fit in, is it just not as powerful or what, ive heard it fits in the engine bay better as well, that could be wrong, and what kind of price are we looking t in the k20 vs. the b or h series?

The K is without a doubt the best honda motor. It has usable torque. It has great power. It holds boost. It responds to bolt ons well.

Oh yeah...and its DANG EXPENSIVE

To get a K swap into an ek or eg would cost AT LEAST 5k, more likely 7-8. They are just so expensive. For the price of them, you can buy a motor that is inferior stock, build it and boost it, and get bettern umbers than the k. That is why people talk about the other motors so much.

And when I talk about K motors, i'm not talking about the gimp 02-05 ep3 one.

The K series engine is much more expensive on its own, and you need lots of stuff to get it into the car, whereas b series are much more straight-forward swaps. When K series engines are not as new as they are now, the price will drop and they will quickly overtake the B series platform for swaps.

K FTMFW!! if you can afford it go for it!! But for the price of the swap, you can build a sick boosted B platform, your preference.

For the record if it has not been made clear yet K series engines are to me the best I4 ever made, they are truely like a V8 cut in half and 250whp n/a can be had with them using fairly basic setups.

K will be most definitely be harder to swap in then a B, atleast thats what im getting from reading something like THIS, as opposed to a B seres which a engine/tranny, linkage, axles, motor mounts and ECU. The K series seems like it would take forever to get all the parts together get it swapped in.

This whole website seems to be really helpful, check it out. Scroll down and theres a section just gor 92+ Civic swaps.

I think it is true though that the k will eventually pass the b and h as the ideal honda swaps. Eventually, as rarity drives up the price of those older swaps, the k's will continue falling in price...eventualliy the k will be the new cult motor that the b16 once was.
