So I just saw another video of a stock K20A (203 hp) beating a 400 hp turbo Supra? I just dont get it, how can this engine do this. Is it the i-vtec, or the 6 speed tranny or what?

 

I hope to god that the driver of the supra is not as retarded as would be necessary to get smoked by at civic with a k20 stock...that would definately not be safe, and this person should not be allowed to drive.

to answer your question, the k20 was probably modded out the a$$, and is known to put out decent numbers. I couldn't tell you what specifically, but others here can.

it's called horsepower-to-weight ratio and gearing.

if you're car is superior at both to your opponent's, then you're probably gonna win everytime.

most civic hatches typically hover around 2,500 lbs. and come stock with a weakAssed OEM engine out the box.

rip out all the dead weight and throw on some lighter parts and you can get your civic down under 2,000 lbs. I've seen some EG hatches come in around 1,800 lbs.

now throw in a high-powered k20 (200 hp or more) and you got a horsepower ratio of 100 lbs/hp. that's damm great for most cars.

build up your engine even more and get it up to 250 hp or more and then you got real sports car acceleration, with the right gearing.

supras definitely have the horsepower advantage but they're also a ton heavier. they have to make a lot more horsepower to be able to get comparible horsepower to weight ratios.

I don't know, maybe a good driver could make a race of it, but it just seems like the supra would still be better on low end torque, and definately top speed. again, correct me if I'm dead wrong, but be decent enough to tell me why.

 

i understand. ive seen it happen before but im just surprised that its stock k20 but it all comes back to what you were explaining.

 

if that's the video i'm thinking it is (the EK hatch on crack vid) than that's no stock k20a. it sounds like it's been built up tremendously.

yeah buddy of mine has a k20a2 in his ek hatch cx fully stock w/intake/header,exhaust..omfg..its insane..and i can proudly say i have road in it.! we have videos, dude kicks coverette zo6's ***, porsche carrea's, 06 gtp's, firebirds, mustang gt's, fully built turbo b16's on DR's. no joke, dudes car is insane. We don't have a quartermile track around here but he runs 7.8's all day on 1/8th mile track. its ****in crazy. He can't grip up either, he can rip all 6 gears. Hes hoping to get some DR's or drags to see what he can really run.
