Not a rice thing, but a suspension thing lol

When I lowered my civic, instead of using the tapered washers from the stock front struts I used the flat weaker washers from the KYB bump stop/strut mount kit. Diagrams showing how to put the front struts together showed flat, non-tapered washers to sit on the shaft area, so I just assumed I was doing the right thing. And at the time I thought the tapered washers were part of the strut (a slight tap with a hammer popped them off)

Well a couple months later I hear this clunk coming from the front end after work. I pop the hood and see this:

I'm like wtf my strut busted. Well a couple phone calls later, a guy from KYB told me about the tapered washers. I bought a new front strut since I damaged the adjustable dial at the top and decided to check out the passenger side front strut.

Sure enough the washer that sits on the shaft was starting to bend. Probably a couple more days for the washer hole to widen and have the same problem repeat.

And with the strut sticking out like that, I almost put a hole in the hood. There's a slight upward dent, which started to rust and that was one reason for me to get a new hood

Never worked on a car before I got mine, but I get valuable lessons from it.

lol. i did the same exact thing. hit a pothole and heard a pop. and kept hearing a popping noise. looked my hood and seen an upward lump on it. surely enough, when i looked under the hood, there was my shock shooting out.

Man, I hate to see another EF hatch torn up. =/

Worst thing I've done was a few years back. Was on campus at OSU. They have some large speed bumps. I hit one at 60ish MPH for ****s and giggles. Got soo much air, and bottomed out hard. Ended up breaking the rear crossmember.

I did the opposite thing. Apparently, hardcore slammage and low-profile tires cause a car to ride rough enough to literally shake bolts loose. The strut bolt, to be exact. One day while driving, I kept hearing a popping sound over bumps... opened the hood and my strut had worked its way loose and was actually under the strut tower. Ended up bending up the strut pretty good, so I ended up buying another one. It worked out since my struts were starting to leak anyway; apparently, KYB AGX struts can't hold up to a 3"+ drop

I was just reading the owners manual the other day and it actually says to only use the cupholders while parked! Haha, I haven't had an accident yet with mine but they are in a weird spot.
