Default XM Radio Question

Hi everyone...

Just purchased an '06 Civic Coupe EX with 6,000 miles. Really excited! My first car was a 1995 Accord and recently had a BMW. Finally decided to go back to my roots

Anyway...I know my car is XM ready but I'm curious as to what I need to purchase to actually have XM in my car. I've looked online but it's so confusing. I don't know if I need to buy just the black box transmitter that is hidden or the display transmitter that is on the console. Also, does anyone recommend a certain model or brand?

Thanks,
Shannon

if its a stock radio that is xm ready, but does not actually have the tuner, then you have to get the honda xm tuner from the factory. which can be expensive.

if its an aftermarket radio that is xm ready, then you need the universal xm tuner box along with the brand specific adapter box. (this is the TERK brand whichis the most common that i have seen)

the seperate units can be used in any car, but are not as clean of installs as the hidden units

Looks like the Honda tuner and antenna kit lists for $299 at the dealer. For that kind of money you can replace the head unit with something fairly nice with XM and MP3, ipod, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I won't end up getting XM afterall. $299 seems pretty steep and I don't want a $100 DIY XM kit.
