MT Civic Project
I hope it's ok for me to start this and if not please delete..
About 2 month ago I started on the journey of finding a car that myself and family could work on and in the end turn it over to my son once he is able to drive. Right away I found my way here and after reading lots of threads/posts I learned that the civic ex was what I was looking for.
Keep in mind that I'm new to all this, so new that I only have the basic tools. I plan to pick up tools as I go and as needed or get friends to help. I will be asking for lots of help, tips or tricks as this goes.
I ended up with a
1994 Civic EX coupe
D15B
New sony CD (NIB) needs to be installed
Loud bumping system
Viper alarm
New snow tires
Ran great and made the 4 hour delivered trip. I did find that the idle would jump up and down when sitting but once going there seemed to be no issue. So of course I got on here and asked questions. Found the TPS to be wired backwards, after rewiring the surging was gone. After driving for a week I finally had a chance to get it out and really check out this vtec thing. Everything went great for a few miles but then it started to sputter and not want to go in to vtec. Runs great if you dont get into the vtec.. Still not sure what that is but thats on the list..
The killer rewire I did..lol I know it's bad but I do plan to redo, it's just crazy cold out..
Fender. I have one coming in tomorrow that I hope to install this weekend.
Plans as of today:
Learn to remove and install fender.
Find the problem with the vtec. Now with this issue I have read that it could be my thermostat or timing is off. I'm hoping to test timing this weekend and need to get a thermostat but at thsi time am unsure of what stat I need for the D15b motor..
Thanks for looking and feel free to help..

Your right, it does need alot of work but am looking forward to the outcome...
Well got my fender today and some tips to install from him. Seems like a pretty easy weekend project but he also said to paint first. What do you guys think? Should I wait till I have it painted?

Fender removal and install can be done within 30 minutes, not a whole weekend
Yes, wait for paint. No reason to install it just to pull it off again for paint. Also, you run the risk of scratches, dents, anything happening to it which would force you to buy a new fender. I rode around with an unpainted front end for years just because I wanted the damaged parts off my car ASAP. Once the new panels were on, I just never really got around to it or found other reasons NOT to spend money on paint, which I hate myself for now.
EDIT: You will need to find a new trim piece to pop in those holes. It seems to have been broken off when your original fender was smashed up.

Thanks 99, I talked with my painter and he also told me to wait. Just wish I would have known and I spent the money on the motor instead, waiting till march for the fender. I just hate driving with a dented fender..lol
Also have a honda guy looking at my car this weekend to help me figure out why it dont want to kick into vtec everytime and to show me somethings about my motor so maybe I can start understanding what I have and what I need to do.
I do know that this civic is the funnest thing I have ever drove when vtec works and I want more..

Today I went back to Russian Mike to look for a few trim pieces but ended up finding this spoiler instead. His trim is all covered in snow so we couldn't find what I was looking for but was happy to spend money on more things to wait for paint..lol
Now having this and the fender sitting and waiting for paint I'm thinking I will push to get it done sooner then I was planning for in March but will see once I have my motor checked out tomorrow and if theres issues I need to deal with right away.
