Default My 89 Civic Si project: Mustard!

I don't even know where to begin. Started a real full time job and realized I could buy a project car. Found this one which seemed like a good deal.

My real Si. It's platable too! Yaaaay, no inspection required.

I had to borrow a truck, rent a dolly, and drive close to 150km there and back... I hate trucks. I wish Ms.Civic could pull a car.

Anyways it came with a crap ton of crap and stuff. Yeah, it's super riced. I'm at the point that I'm scared of what its been through. Paid $1200 for it, $30 gas and $75 for the rental. Not bad. You can decide if it was worth it. I think so.

This was all chilling in the trunk...

Yeah, ebay turbo, and manifold as well. I'll probably use the manifold and buy a new turbo.

Rear strut bar... plastic needs to be trimmed to use it. Maybe I'll strip the interior? I don't know, I don't know! EFF.

Now, what are you doing in the trunk!? EFF. Relocated ELD as well... I'm pretty sure 89's didn't have ELD. I'll have to look closer.

Woop!

Although, that throttle body is not exactly port matched. xD

As far as the body of the car goes... I'll have to see how the molding got shaved, check for rust, and repair what I can. Paint it black or something dark dark red... or pearl white. That's a looooong ways off. It's gonna be de-riced, as I have always wanted an Si.

It's got a cable transmission. The guy said it's a Y1, but, I've got no clue. I'll check for LSD when I pull the motor.

Now I'm going to continue my pulling of parts...

Yeah... the kid who built the car... or bought it from the builder... didn't know about jacking points. EFF. Not impressed. It honestly might end up getting spray-bombed black and converted into my winter driver...

It's got 3 inch exhaust.
PLX wideband (YUP, the 5 wire o2 sensor is there!!!! ) now I need to figure out everything that goes with it.

I've got a feeling I can sell that sick center console on ebay. Lol.

I took a few more pictures before heading in last night... the shaving was done with the proper method, but, who knows about the craftsmanship. The drivers fender is eff'd. Would it be silly to remove the door poppers? they are pretty primitive...

Really, put a D16 in it and replace the doors, give it a crap-tastic paint job. I even have a good front bumper and side molding for it... with clips... which feels useless now... because shaved. EFF. I really understand why they designated 4th gens EF's.

If it didn't have the jack damage, I'd keep the poppers and put power windows w/ switches to replace the lock latch/flippy thing.

What really blows my mind is that he could have removed the door handle all together and put the crossover in that spot... instead of in the door panel. lol. another set of Si panels destroyed.

3 blue LED's per door + 1 red one in the crossover. Duct-taped in place. wiring is a rats nest under the dash, which surprising, doesn't bother me...

Damn... Poor car. Even worse that it's an '89 Si... So much potential in those cars most people don't know about..

The faint of heart might want to turn back now...

This is the rats nest I'm dealing with.

Surprisingly, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I love wiring. I hate the backbreaking part of it though...

Among the nest, I found this! Always a nice find.

A lot of things are ghetto rigged on this car... I don't know the guy that built it, but, I want to punch him in the face so hard that he flies back in time and decides not to build this car.

ALL the ground wiring in the engine bay is like that. I just re-did mine in Ms.Civic... So seeing this hurts me. Seeing all the wiring and everything being like this, it hurts me... so much... I'll save this car. Mostly.

Check out the can. Yes, it exits on the right side... That's not right for this chassis! UGH. The way it got put together is scary too.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with these cars. It seems to make sense to make the busted up Si the winter beater. People will stare me down all the time too. Lol. Excite. Put a D back in it w/ VTEC and keep the stupid can on it lol. Maybe. I'm not even thinking about the B or even the turbo at this point... I just want to get Mustard up and running and bag it aaaaaaallllll winter. HAH.

I took the B16 head inside to have a better look.

It's got 450cc DSM injectors. Woop!

And here's the problem with the B16...

That's one EF'd exhaust valve.

I'm curious if this could be the culprit. Same cylinder, #1.

So I've been investigating a couple things with this car.

XSpower is an Ebay brand so that turbo is a good decoration for my room...

The guy that built this car put it together so it would be fast. Not clean.

I didn't know what a lot of the stuff was before...

The wastegate's dump tube dumps to open air. I don't know if that's quite right or not or if it even matters.

There is a GM boost control solenoid for some reason, as well as a manual boost controller? Dual boost? Or some sort of boost by gear set-up? I really don't know.

I still don't know what that thing is with the PSI gauge on it in my last post. It was hooked up to the brake booster vacuum line...

Ground control coil overs are on it... this guy loved Ebay. I'm still scared.

Dropped the block out of it & the transmission. Verified that it isn't LSD. oh well.

Oh and I have a D16y7 coming for this car... I want to run it OBD0 with a PM6. I worry if a) the distributor from an A6 bolts up and b) if it has the same timing issues with a P28 running a D16y8.

I'm curious as to what this stuff is and why it is like it is.... there are a couple things tapped into the block...

I know the one in the block is for coolant temp sensor. That makes sense.

But is the the thing in the transmission a transmission cooler or something? What??? Can I add this functionality, or is it totally useless? C'mon!
