Default RC2904's 97 DX Coupe

So ive decided to make a build thread so I can put all my questions and updates in one place. So to catch everyone up, here is what ive got so far.
  • Installed EX cluster (DX does not have a tach)
  • 99-00 style cupholders
  • JVC head & Pioneer speakers (no subs anymore)
  • Y8 Intake Manifold
  • Ebay SRI (temporary)
  • OEM Del Sol 14'' wheels

Right now im weighing my options of either keeping the Y7 or going with a Z6 minime. If a cheap z6 swap comes my way ill do that but in the meantime im leaning toward going for a mildly boosted Y7. Lookin into delta or bisimoto cam regrinds and getting head ported/milled but im gonna wait on that till im sure what head to use.

I think im keeping the exterior looking oem aside from maybe a type-r grill and a mild drop.

Im still looking into it. Im not really going for huge hp or anything so just a small turbo that can spool up quickly and will not fall apart is what I really want. Ive heard people say ebay turbos are fine if everything is done to the correct specs but im still not quite convinced. If i can get 200hp ill be completely satisfied. Any suggestions on the engine management?

stay far away from an ebay turbo, you can buy turbo's off ebay but only buy name brands, i suggest going for something like a t25 if you want a small turbo that spools fast.

just boosted my y7 in a similar fashion to what you are talking about i couldn't be happier with it. Yea skip eBay turbos, they're not worth the risk, i've got a manifold/turbo laying around that might be up for bids (since the guy who bought it on eBay is trying to back out now).

Research a lot, know what you're doing and good luck with the project. An OBD1 conversioin + p06 ECU + tune will be a good form of engine management for your mild setup.

Nice pick up btw. How many miles are on it and how much did you get it for?

No idea about miles but its gotta be rebuilt, $80 total for the head/dizzy/IM.
Its got a couple bent valves.
Is there a substantial enough difference in valves and valve springs to warrant getting one aftermarket type/brand or another? Or is it practically all the same? Would it be advisable to re-use some used OEM valves as long as they are in good condition?

I would just go ahead and replace all of the valves with OEM replacements. The valve springs and retainers should be good to use. Do you plan on upgrading your camshaft? If so, I would look into upgraded valve springs and retainers.

Here's the link to the valves I currently have in my head. Been using them for the past 4000 miles/2 months without any issues.
