if its the one piece header/cat then you need to replace it which is 1 piece.

or if you want to switch the exhaust to a EX header and cat and mid pipe for better looks and to probably last longer

yes you will if you stick to the oem setup you will have to buy a new header and cat. because its 1 piece. If your not looking to upgrade I would just order a new one from an online site like http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ because it will be $20-$40 cheaper than going to the dealership

if your state is not too tough on emissions magnaflow makes the one piece header/cat combo for about $500

Default 98 hx

Hi folks,

Thanks so much for your advice. #2 if I change to an EX mani are there any extra adapters needed?
I had the tranny rebuilt about a month ago and it was calibrated at a Honda dealer, but it surges a couple hundred RPM's during acceleration is this normal with the CVT tranny. I'm trying to get used to the in an outs of my car, I don't work on it myself but in the past have been great at knowing when things aren't right with my cars.
One more thing, how do I know if my car has cali emmissions.

Thanks

well to swap to a EX exhaust you need a EX or aftermarket header, and a EX cat converter, also preferably the mid pipe for the exhaust for a EX as well. and if you use a stock ex header or aftermarket header without a front O2 sensor bung then you will need a short and long O2 wire extenders.
i have a long O2 extender for sale if interested check the FS forum here.
i swapped my DX exhaust for a ex exhaust setup. worked great so far other than the 5speed shifter sometimes hitting the pipes in 5th gear and reverse
and a exhaust leak around the back of the cat converter since i had to modify my dx piping and i didnt fully weld it yet.
