2000 EX sedan, 3rd cat....WWYD?
2000 ex has 175k miles on it.
Apr 2007- CEL comes on, dealer says new cat. converter.
Mar 2008 - CEL and a loud rattle at acceleration, dealer says new cat needed. (Under warranty from the last one)
Mar 2009 CEL.... says its a cracked exhaust manifold and a fouled cat ,dealer wants to throw a new cat on it again ( says its one piece)... says the engine is sending a lot of oil into the exhaust and that is stopping up the cat, but he can't tell me where the oil is coming from... I'm not adding oil between oil changes, so I don't buy his story.
What tests can be run to see if there is a stoppage, etc......
Thanks!

The cracked header (exhaust manifold), which will make the engine run rich, killed your most recent cat. You might argue for a bad installation (improper torquing of bolts) or a defective header/cat in this case.
Did the dealer ever explain to you why the first two cats died?

The dealer said nothing to the Mrs. about why the cat failed.... I was in Iraq at the time......
He did mention an error code for a too-rich fuel mix........ his deal was he was finding issues to not cover the cat in warranty. I adopted a wait and see on the repair, and he returned it to me with the CEL on, after the oil change.
Going to take it to the local all makes all models repair shop and ask him to read the codes on the CEL......we'll go from there.....
Did call Honda America to get the call logged with the mileage on the car when we presented it.
