Hey all, I have a 1996 Honda Civic EX coupe basically fully stock. I honestly don't know too much about cars, yet when I had it serviced a while ago the guy said I should get a new muffler. Everytime I accelerate hard, usually from when i'm stopped, I hear a really crappy sound come from the back of my car, leading me to believe its just a crappy exhaust system making the noise.

Would it make a bad noise if it were in fact the muffler? or is it the engine? & would a new exhaust system fix it? The car has quite a few miles (160k) but she still runs good. Thanks a lot & any reccomendations would be great

 

I would listen to your mechanic. (Hint I am one.) But are you planning keeping it stock or are you looking into getting some aftermarket mods for it.

 

Chances are its the exhaust. Ive seen a lot of stock honda exhausts rust out so it would seem totally plausible that you would need a new muffler
