Default AEM Short Ram 99 civic Intake Installation Questions

I am about to install an AEM Short Ram intake into a 1999 Honda Civic EX Coupe SOHC Engine. The instructions that came with AEM said to drain about 1 gal of coolant from the engine during the install & to replace it after installation. Is this necessary?
Has anyone installed a shorty on a 99 before?

I searched and all I found was a few pics of a CAI for a 99 and a 98 install guide.

Not necessary. I didnt do it when I installed mine (AEM CAI), and I've been running it for almost a year with no issues.

umm no, I think the AEM people were smoking crack before they wrote it but jsut remove the stock air box and hook it up, take the - battery terminal off before you start and reconnect it when your done, then let the engine run for 10 min to let the ECU reset the sensor on the intake so you wont get a CEL

Got it installed no problem. Easy. AEM's instructions were garbage. I'm glad they didn't write the Haynes manual, becuase they might have me removing wheels to replace washer fluid!!!
