For the price Hedman headers are great. Paint burns off fairly quick (and smelly) but with a good heat resistant paint it might last longer.

Dc Sports header those are better
Believe it or not, they're not really better. They're only popular because they're legal in cali. The quality of the welds and everything is the same as the other popular brands (Hedman, Megan Racing, etc.), and you'll see the same gains as Hedman, Megan, even the headers you'll find on eBay (zomg! Ebay headers might actually be good? Yeah, that's right... you just have to worry about the welds). Not to mention DC's are horribly over-priced (I'm aware you bought yours used) for what you pay for. I'm not saying they aren't good headers, I just think if you're going to pay $300+ for a header, you better be buying a Bisimoto.

^^^^ I know they are overpriced. That's why I got me some good used ones and powder coating them will make them look really good again like new.

Powdercoating will look nice, but if you can get access to a ceramic coater i would go with that because the ceramic will dissipate less heat which will reduce underhood temps and keep the exhaust gas velocity high. this will aid horsepower in 2 seperate helpful ways (reducing intake air heat and increasing the effectiveness of the scavenging effect)

As for basic header painting, try to find the paint that has the highest heat resistance, but remember that the header doesn't give off a monstrous amount of heat, so 600 degrees should be fine.

So if I went with Hedman, is there something like a coating or spray I could put on the header to prevent the paint from peeling?

You can Powder Coat them or use that High Temp Paint they sell at Auto-zone. But Paint might get burned off with time

try pacesetter, i know they make blk headers but i wouldnt recommend them. the blk paint burns off real quick b/c they get so freakin hot. always get ceramic coated headers to prevent rusting and if you dont like the color you can always wrap hem in some header wraps by DEI or therma-cool. but be careful, wrapping them can void your warranty. read the fine print.
