And no i dont think you will lose any power anywhere, just the high-end gains will be unnoticable, but the lower end will be. Sound will also be better too

just buy both and try em both out
eventualy i want to cut my cheap CAI in half and try it out as a SRI
i got two of the cheap ones off ebay.... the one i swaped out cause engine cleaner clouded up its chrome... so im just gonna paint it black eventualy.... only problem i might have is the mounting bracket.. might have to weld a metal tab on it..
but i havent had any problems with my cheap CAI with a AEM dry flow filter....
i havent noticed any performance gains BUT i love looks and the sound of it!

I have an AEM CAI on my 98' dx and love it. Sounds good and when I first got it I guess I noticed a little gain in power, could have been my imagination though. I have the bypass valve installed on it and have never had any problems with water (besides the time I took a hose and shot they bypass valve). With all that said, if I were to do it again I would go SRI. It's cheaper, easier to install, and the power gains between the 2 are probably not that different. The biggest advantage IMO is the filter is always clearly visible so you can keep on eye on it all the time. Cold air is tucked away and takes "effort" to inspect.
or you could order the CAI, and if you dont like the performance/sound/where the filter sits/etc, you can just not install the 2nd pipe and put the filter on the end of the first pipe. That way you have yourself an SRI and a CAI, depending the mood you are in or the weather outside. Easy to install/uninstall the 2nd pipe, so thats what i recommend.
EDIT: not only is it what i recommend, it is what i did as well, and i'm very pleased with it

well my cheap ebay tube is one piece...... and mine only has one mounting point which is towards the front where it goes thru the cutout...
so i gotta weld some metal brace onto mine to make it a SRI...
i probably wont modify mine till spring just cause i dont care or will be showen off under the hood anytime soon. LMFAO

SRI: best throttle response(snappier)
CAI: better high end

AEM sri ftw. There aren't any significant power differences b/w sri or cai. It's up to you. I say save your money and get a sri. Plus it makes the engine bay "look" better w/ that huge cone filter.

'looks better' is subjective. personally i hate how the cone filter looks in the corner of the engine bay...a pipe going from the intake to the lower left hand corner just screams power to me (either from a CAI or a turbocharger)
LOL ya true the pipe runen long ways and no filter being seen can look mor elike more power.LOL
to inspect the filter it only takes like one other screw to pull down the front plastic cover and look at the filter
thats how i changed my filter..... instaling the tube is the hardest part...... pullen the filter is easy
