Default D16Y7 headers

So the stock header on my 98DX coupe has a crack all the way around one of the tubes right at the flange where it connects to the engine. Unfortunately, being the Y7, the first cat is integral with the pipe.

So I'm wondering, if I replace it with like a Megan Racing header, will I have to go out and then get a catack system with a second cat to balance the car out? I mean t has two cats for a reason I assume, so would I have to get another one in there to make up for taking one out?

I really don't want to deal with the stealership and it's $650 for the damn stock one... and even aftermarket equivalent would run me like $400 by the time you include the o2 sensors etc...

your car doesnt have 2 cats. the second one is a resinator. just go out and get like a magnaflow high flow cat and have an exhaust shop weld it in for 50 bucks

so i should be able to get away with say a megan racing or dc sports with a magnaflow hiflo cat in the mid pipe? or should I get a catback and have it welded into that?

it depends on what you wanna do man, if you want to get a cat-back, go for it, most of us have catbacks

you can get a catback exhaust for a d16y8, and then a high-flow cat for a d16y8, and then just bolt the cat to the header, then the catback to cat. The length will be perfect and you will have new performance, and you will still have a cat.

And yeha, you only have one cat. The bulge in the midpipe is your resonator.

I was under the impression that the headers for an EX model (D16Y8) would not work on my DX model (D16Y7)

no all D series headers will fit all D series (i think), but its just the exhaust length/fitment that messes things up. I have a d16y8 header on my d16y7 and hten just have a high-flow cat bolted up to my header and 2.25" piping back from there.
