Default exhaust

i looking at an universal magnaflow for my 1998 honda civic. is universal pretty much the same thing as a slip on.

I feel stupid but all ive ever had was jeeps and bikes. the whole tuner thing is new to me, but i like it so far.

I've never heard of a universal mangnaflow, but if you plan on getting an exhaust system look it up depending on the year, and the model type eg. EX, CX, SI, HX, LX

So you might want to find out what model yours is.

the universal magnaflow is a muffler. if you plan on going that route, make sure to get some stainless steel 2.25" piping and a nice resonator.

look around on eBay. Search "Magnaflow Muffler" and they come in all shapes and sizes. You won't see any gains unless you do the bigger piping like My04 mentioned, in which case you can get a 2.25" inlet/outlet muffler and resonator from Magnaflow and you'll be set. Mine was like $60 or $70 and it sounds nice, so it's a pretty good deal.

it's a bulge in the exhaust piping that has some stuff in it that quiets the exhaust down and makes it less raspy

anyway, the universal muffler is just a muffler and has to be welded on. If you can't weld but want to do it yourself, get a magnaflow or any name brand catback exhaust, they are bolt on.

yeah you can actually order two of the same "Magnaflow mufflers" from eBay and use one for the res and then the other for the muffler.

and yeah a resonator is just a muffler thats located about halfway through your exhaust piping

ok kool. i found a magnaflow i liked. what if i got a cheap muffler off of ebay for the resonator with a 2.25 inlet/outlet and then get 2.25 piping and use the magnaflow at the back. would that work alright. im kinda on a low buget so im tryin to do this as cheap as i can but still have a good muffler.

here ya go, nice and cheep and bolt on. This should work with the setup your looking at i'm not 1000% sure. If you went with an actual muffler it would be to quiet/restrictive. this will help both power and sound.

That will sound like crap. It's not a real resonator. Those ebay "resonators" are completely hollow. And that one's designed to replace the cat, which you don't want. The cat already acts as a resonator, why replace it with something that won't resonate as good?
A real resonator goes a little farther down the exhaust pipe, and are welded in. There aren't any bolt-on resonators.
