sorry about the big pic. the instructions say D16Z6 engine type.
That's the wrong exhaust, the D16Z6 is the 92-95 SOHC VTEC engine from a Civic EX or Si

if you ordered a d16y7 catback exhaust instead of your d16y8,
Um he has a D16Y7, he said "stock 98 dx civic sohc base model" (shouldn't you know? [8D])

i called the place i got it from and apexi headquarters. the place i got it from told me its the right exhaust. they said that all the eg(?) civics have the same exhaust. so i think thats 92-00. its universal for all of them. they didnt know why it doesnt come with the pipe i need. they said its for velocity, which is bs.
then i called apexi and they also said its the right exhaust for the car. they told me all their systems should be cat-back, like it says. they want me to take pics of the old exhaust next to the new exhaust. i guess they have never ran into this problem before. even though the instructions show it not hooking up to the cat. either that or noone has complained about it to them. this is bs cause they label it as a cat back and it isnt for my car. it makes an easy job into a pain in the ***. i definitely dont recommend this exhaust for anyone who has a car like mine.

It is a catback for your car still because your cat is part of your stock exhaust manifold. Your exhaust bolts up to the exhaust manifold like in the picture. Buy a new header and converter if you want that pipe to be bigger. Nothing is wrong with that exhaust from what I understand.

If you have a stock 98 Civic you have an EK.

"EG" Civics are from 92-95
"EK" Civics are from 96-00

You'll still notice a difference with the smaller pipe preceding the catback. On my Civic I had 1.75 into 2.25 and it still helped. If you want more flow, get a header and a highflow cat, and then you'll be good.

someone explained to me why its like that. that exhaust is made for a horizontal aftermarket cat. i wish i would have been enformed about that before. i have a way of hooking it up the way it is though. the pipe is 1.5" i have a 1.5-1.75 adapter that will work. thanks everyone.
