id be interested in hearing why youd say boost would be cheaper than i/h/e
ORIGINAL: neon3kgt

i think he said it would be cheaper because.... a good intake= $200. a good cat back=$450. a good header=300. and by that time you could have a cheap turbo set up.
exactly. and that 'cheap' turbo setup you put together yourself a setup that will hold even with even those 4-5k 'kits' that greddy and revhard, apexi...all those guys make.

Greddy's kit is only about 2 grand (w/o an intercooler and some other essentials), but i definately agree a homemade turbo setup (pieced together, not a kit) will definately be better money-wise than buying any kit from a large manufacturer.

With the bottle you MIGHT be able to keep up with a gti and the bottle is cheaper than a turbo set up usually, but with the bottle you use it a few times, then just have to refill it. Turbo is much better in the long run.

Spend $1200 and get a first gen B16A. Then save up and turbo that. Then go ask the kid if he wants to race.

I think a B16 is a waste of money

How so? I just did my B16 swap and I think it was well worth it IMO. How come everyone is knocking the B16 now adays?

you spend 1200 on a swap so a 1200 turbo d will blow its doors off

Yeah but you could say that about the GSR too. A GSR swap with I/H/E isnt all that much faster than a B16 with the same mods. A boosted D16 should be able to handle the GSR. I can see where your coming from though. I just think (even though it costs more) that a B16 or a GSR swap is better if you plan to boost down the road.

I am going to boost my B16, but im going to build it from the bottom up and do it right.

I'm with rmvols31, i just wouldn't race, a civic is just a civic, unless you've got the time and money for a dohc turbo'd setup, just keep it clean and laugh at their beat up piece of .... you fill in the rest.
