Yes I did have the car on stands and it still was difficult, but I'll get it on even if hell freezes over.

Have you tried flexible rachet adapters? Like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I don't know if this is any help, but I use a similar one a lot...
