Default Magnaflow and header help

Hi i just got a magnaflow cat back for my 1997 civic dx.Im having trouble with what i should do about what header to get. My cat is on my manifold if i get a performance header my cat will be gone andi wont pass inspection. I wanted to get aDC 4-2-1what should i do. Another question my exaust is not real loud i was thinking of cutting out my resonator would that make my car sound worse or will a new header make it louder. If someone could help me or find me a DC header that would be great TY.

Get the header for an EX and get a catalytic coverter for an EX.

A magnaflow catback didn't make your car loud enough for you, are you going deaf? I know it isn't the loudest exhaust out there but mine is plently loud enough for me... I'm thinking about getting a silencer for it.

yes, the EX header will fit, then to keep it emissions legal you'll have to get an EX cat to bolt onto the header, but that will be too long for the catback to bolt up to, so you might have to chop the flanges off the cat and have it welded in the exhaust somewhere, but then you'll run into secondary o2 sensor problems with the o2 sensor not reachign, simulators, etc. Gotta love the DX cat situation

Magnaflow uses an extension pipe so their catback will fit on a DX or if you have an EX you just don't use the extension pipe, so no cutting, welding, or any modifications at allrequired.

^ thanks for the info, wow thats smart. I think they also make the only DX specific header with a built-in high flow cat, but it's like $550, still kind of cool if you got the money.

hey blackpearl97, I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 97 LX and my stock cat converter is too old and not functioning right. I took my car to a Honda Specialist shop and they said it would cost $850 to replace it. I asked him if I could just get an aftermarket EX Header and Cat but he said that the check engine light will stay off for only about 6 months. Not sure if he's trying to pursaude me in spending the $850 or not...

Have you decided on what you're doing? I can get a Magnaflow cat and a decent EX header a heck of alot cheaper than what the Honda shop will charge me.

I have found two part #s from Magnaflow for the Cat Back exhausts; 15646 forthe EXand 15642 for the DX/LX. I have a Cdn EX with the D16Y7, funny manifold. Which exhaust is the one I want?
