Muffler advice
Hi there. I have a 99 Civic LX and I'm in the middle of troubleshooting an issue or two on my car and noticed that a good chunk of the acceleration noise I'm hearing is coming from a hole in the muffler. It's large enough to put my pinky in and it's right in front of the muffler (as opposed to after the muffler at the tip, or on the muffler itself) near the joint.
It looks pretty easy to replace, just undo the two bolts and unclip the old muffler from the hanger and install new muffler.
I'm curious if anyone can recommend a muffler. My whole car is stock and I don't really have any plans for performance parts per se, though if one muffler will be quieter than another, or provide better flow without sounding like a fartcan, I'm all ears.
PS - I did read the exhaust sticky; doesn't seem geared for a person like myself who is stock.

Cool, that's what I figured, thanks for the advice. I just wanted to make sure if spending a little extra would yield more bang for your buck than the stock muffler without making a ton of noise, but I'll just go with stock. Here's to hoping my cat or something else isn't jacked up and needing replacement as well.

Yeah good choice, plus really nice aftermarket mufflers get expensive, and they are the only ones with good sound. Also mufflers dont had an performance so they are a useless upgrade unless your just going for sound. Hope this fixes your problem and it isnt anything else major!

Generally with mufflers, the more you spend, the better it sounds.
Quiet aftermarket mufflers can be pricey.
Anything oval shaped is what you want, whether it be stock, Apex-i WS2, GReddy SP2, RS*R Exmag, Tanabe Hypermedallion, or others. Round mufflers (circular) tend to be loud. Oval tend to be relatively quiet.
It sounds like in this situation stock would be best. Changing out the muffler for an aftermarket one isn't going to increase air flow enough to make a difference because the piping from the cat to the muffler will still be a dinky 1.75" diameter. Stock will be the quietest, and nothing aftermarket is going to anything for you besides changing the sound, unless you get a full catback exhaust. Even then though the gains are small.

This came off my 96 civic HX. Ill sell it to you for $20 plus shipping. It should be under $50 with shipping. If you want it ill find out how much it will cost to ship it to you. After market sell for more and if you want an OEM quality one like this your looking at even more $$$.
