OEM exhaust or aftermarket catback?

OEM exhaust or aftermarket catback?
hey guys im new here, figured i'd be able to get some pretty strong opinions about this one.
so my exhaust system is shot. local shops are all quoting $400-500+tax for stock replacement and labor, which clearly is bs. so, despite me having limited mechanic experience i think i'll be doing this myself. i'd like to keep it on a reasonable budget.
the ride: 2000 EX coupe with 119k miles
so im wondering whats the least i can expect to pay for a stock exhaust/muff? and is there enough of a legit performance boost to merit a catback setup?
also how long can i ride w/o the exhaust before my cpu is shot (so far ive logged about 140 miles)?
from what i've been told, the actual process of swapping the exhausts is cars101 level work, so my main concern is just finding the replacement parts. thx in advance for the advice~

I agree with JayVee, an nice after market system. Here is a link to some information http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...242/index.html You can always take a look at other systems here https://www.hondacivicforum.com/foru...ad.php?t=22466. If you want to hear what the different systems sound like go to YouTube there are a lot of videos.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Well your cheapest route would to have an exhaust shop just make you a custom one, and then just install it yourself. They would use a like oem muffler so it would sound the same as your old one. That should only cost you like $250ish.
Replacing/upgrading your exhaust is easy. All you do is unbolt the old one and bolt the new one back up. Just spray some pb blaster on the bolts/nuts the night before and you should be golden.
