Default P0171 on 1996 Civic

I've got a 1996 Civic and the engine light came on a few weeks ago...I took it to the dealership which charged me $95 canadian to "diagnose" the problem. They came back and said it's "probably" the o2 sensor and it would cost $400 canadian to replace it. What a rip off....I'm on a mission to learn more about fixing my cars!!!

Two questions:
1) SHould I check anything else besides the o2 sensors?

2) If it is the o2 sensor, how to I know which one to replace? I think I see two of them on the car...one around the exhause manifold at the top by the hood latch and other down below (by the bottom of the radiator).

For $400 you could probably get a header and 2 new O2 sensors. Definitely try to do it yourself and save some cash for mods.
