Default 88 Civic DX Gauge Conversion

I have a 88 Civic DX and am trying to convert current gauge cluster with one from a 91 Civic with Tachometer. When I plugged up newer gauge cluster, tachometer did not work and nor did the fuel or tempature gauge. I am wondering if I need to rewire the plug ins on the back of gauge cluster. any advise is greatly appreciated.

you most likely have a cluster form 90 - 91 Si which will not work in your 88. You need to get a cluster from 88 - 89 Si in order for the tach fuel, and temp gauge to work

Thanks CVtegra, those gauges have been hard for me to fine which is why i settled on one out of a 91 civic. Does anyone know if rewiring based on wire color/code of plug ends alow this cluster to work and is 88 civic dx wired to send engine rpm information to gauge?

Yes, when looking at the cluster from the driver's seat, if you took the cluster cover off it would be the blue wire furthest left and up that is your tach lead.
