Dashboard LED Conversion
Hi i got a 99 EX civic auto ,and i been looking for information about a LED conversion,i want to make my hole dashboard (because i like the stock meters )and also the AC along with the gear shift a nice noen blue with LED,i did a search and i didnt get anything so thats y im asking, its a mod like msx did on her car,i know that theres resistance with LED so i kinda know a lil on that but if anyone knows were to mount them,or what to cut or anything on that topic, or could possibly point me a direction it would be more then greatfull, thanks in advance
ive been interested in doing this to my 99ex also... cause same as you... i like the stock gauges.....
only thing id like to change is clearing the needles and put some blue leds in just about everything....
tho i have no clue if you can even clear the needles on these civics... probably not.... at least doesnt look like it... so i might get some UV leds and try to black light effect the white needles.......
ive also looked into this mod but i realy cannt find anything specific on how many of what types of bulbs to use...
only way to be sure is to buy a bunch of em and hope ya got the right number or sell the extras or buy more once ya run out.LOL
or if ya dont mind soldering a bunch of leds and resistors just buy a bunch of leds and resistors and start soldering away.......
ive thought about doing it to my civic cause those led bulbs to fit can get expensive... BUT soldering leds to resistors then resistors to the eletrical boards can also get realy tiresume! ALSO leds have to be conected right or they wont lite up... so ya have to unsolder the led and swtich the power/grounds for them to work properly....
BUT with your mail 194 style bulbs for backlighting in the gauges GET SOME REALY NICE premade leds!!!!!!!! get the ones with the max led built into them and in different directions!!!!!! that will make the hot spots not AS BAD....
i realy wanna do my gaues BUT i think id rather have a test gauges first to try!
would like to find a cheap EX gauge cluster to test out and pull fully apart! just so i know how it all comes apart and what the guts all look like... that way i can truly custom the lights in them!

Nice, does sounds smart if the back up lights fit in there perfect then y not,its simple n less of a mess, but also i found this post from a member,he quite his name but this is what i got
"you need to get LED's and modify them to fit the stock location. I did this and it looks awesome. Make sure you get GAN flat top LED's that have a wide dispersment of light and not the dome LED that shine forward or you will get uneven lighting and hot spots.
Berz out. "
and also this
"yes the stock are bulbs..you can get the same size l.e.d that fits and plugs right in, you can probably find them at your local automotive store..i no in cananda i went to Canadian Tire and they have them there...i would take out one of the stock bulbs and bring it with you
im not sure what year your car is..im going by a 2000"
so according to these post wich are from 2005,as they say u can pop them out and insert ready to use LED's with out you having to put resistors n what not,but also the brez guy is saying that to make sure to get the flat top so that way u get an even light all around,im tempted to try this so bad but i wana gather some more info befor i start but hey u can PM if u want any more info, what ever i get i'll post or pm you if you want, and if you find out how to clear the needles, thats a deff i wana do
