Default don't make TOO much fun of me...

I'm not really sure if this is the right place for this question, but i couldn't find a good place to put it.

when i first got my car, it took me a while to learn to drive it. i went from a tiny 2 door saturn to the bigger civic. it was also wayyy lower that my saturn. so.... i have hit parking stoppers a few times. theres no damage to my bumper, but the black plastic thing under it is pretty tore up. my question is, what exactly is that thing called? can i just take it off completely? what does it do? where would i buy a replacement for it?

p.s.: it's an '06 civic coupe.

its like a splash shield so when your driving in different conditions things dont bounce up into your engine bay like rocks, water, debre etc. Yeah you can take if off no problem, could bolts and its off

well i live in miami... so the only condition my car is exposed to other than sun is rain. we don't get snow or anything like that. i'm deathly afraid to drive through puddles any more than 1/2 and inch deep. so it should be ok if i take it off right? plus i think i'll look better. i hate that thing.

Why would you take that off? without that you can hit more sensitive parts on the car

I posted with this exact question about my integra, and got pretty much the same answers. We determined it wouldn't be too dangerous taking it off, but you're asking for a heck of a lot more dirt.

I ended up with a happy medium - cutting it. Just sliced off the hanging pieces with a dremmel tool. Worked okay for a while but it's started falling back down.

nah, I would go against taking it off. You don't want debri kicking upand getting intoyour belt system. Aswell as haveing a little bit of a cushion when you scrape the road from bumps and stuff.

I would just use duct tape to hold it together down there. No one will see it, and if you want to take your bumper off, or bend it back to get to your manifold/header it wont be a big deal.

well i guess ya could cut the pieces that hang down low and if it sags ZIP TIES are your friend to hold them up.
or maybe even fill the cutout spots over. depending on why the parts did drop like if theirs a metal support that made it hang down or not, some plastic that is about the same thickness and flat and some rivets or zip ties to hold the cover pieces to the originals. just a idea...
