Default EK/EP Centerpeice Exchange

Just wanted to know how much different the EK and EP centerpieces were (the piece that holds the radio, A/C dials, etc.) I want to trade out my EK for an EP down the road and was wondering what kind of modding I would have to do, or if it was possible, cuz if not mistaken, the EP's are rotary dials, right? And the EK's are linear, so maybe a little fabrication? I'm guessing no one's done this, but a little help from anyone who's got an EP and thinks it's possible would be great.

Why do you want the liniear over the rotarty?

Typically rtoatry means digitally controlled, like in the 99-00 (which are EK) civics. The 96-98 are liniear and are kinda cavemanish in the sense that you are actually pushing a rod to get the climate controls to switch. Computers are there to make your life easier.

It would take a whole lot of molding and the wireing just may be impossible or on the brink of the price of the car.

Just to prove to you that I'm not an idiot LEVIII, I'll clear that up. I have a '96, so I have the linear *****, and want to upgrade to the rotary dials. I'm trying to get rid of the ugly linear system. So the 99-00's have rotary dials too? What would I have to do? I think the only "cavemanish" dial I would have to worry about is the hot/cold linear ****. That's a push-rod style. But I think switching between upper/lower/defrost vents are electronic, cuz I can hear the motors turn when I push the button. And the On/Off linear dial is electronic too, I think. Just don't know if I can splice them into the rotary dials or not. I'd have to jury rig something for the hot/cold push-rod anyway.

I think you might need to just swap out the center dash.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Tear out the whole center piece out of a newer model with rotary dials and put it in mine. It prolly won't fit right, but nothin a little bondo/fiberglass couldn't fix. Just wasn't 100% sure on the wiring side of it, being compatible and all.

Ok, it makes way way more sense to me know.

For somw reaoson I thought you said you had an EP though. Oh well.

Yeah, it is a very common swap and you need to change out quite ab it of stuff though, the center peice of caorse (this is a much better looking peice IMO too, and you get a 2 din stereo hole, one to mount the stereo the other for a VAFC or something) and you will also need to get a bunch of wiring and I belive a new blower motor or something like that. You may have to go over to HondaTech and do some searching on this one but I know it is more then just the center peice.

Good luck and post up your progress on here for future Noobs to use.
