Default Factory spoiler install 03 Civic help....

Hi,

I’ve been thinking of installing a factory type spoiler on our 03 Civic sedan. Is it true that I would have to change the trunk springs? Where is the best place to get a new set? I’m guessing the dealer would want big $$$. Any help or recommendations on installing one of these spoilers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

i wouldnt think that adding a factory spoiler would hurt the springs... its not that much extra weight....

with the torsion spring setup hondas use (at least 6th gen) it is necessary to beef up the springs when adding spoilers

you should be fine. I added 10 lbs of dynamat to my trunk lid and if anything it has a more solid feel with more weight.

Wait, isn't it just a metal bar that twists and stay under load until u open the trunk?

ya i mean why not just slap it on and see....

worst thing that can happen is you open it up and it drops back closed.LOL no big deal...

at least for me anyways im not in my truck every day so having to keep on hand on mine wouldnt be to much of a hassle.... but if it is a big deal then... o well.... you can just swap out the springs anyways..

I checked with the dealer, they say you can only get the heavy springs when you buy the entire spolier kit[:@]. I'm thinkingthe trunk lid is pretty flimsy now and when I use the key pad to pop the trunk will it still pop up a bit? Or will it stay shut?[&:]

[edit] Sorry! I committed the sin of reviving an old thread. I thought it was still 2007 for some reason.

I added a spoiler to my 6th gen. I got the complete kit so it came with the springs, but I haven't figured out how to put them on. I couldn't get the old ones off.

That was back in August or September. Trunk still opens just fine, but it could use a little more boost... If someone figures that out, let me know.

(My beefier trunk springs are currently being used to open my miniblinds from closed to slanted...)
