Default Fiberglass Kit Hardening

I dont know much about body kits except for the fact that I have one sitting in my garage waiting to be put on my car. It was a pretty cheap kit and I regret getting it now that I read all the stuff on this forum, but its to late now. I found a shop in town that is going to base coat, clear coat it for about $350 (whole kit). My friends and I installed it and it is aligned perfect. i was just wondering if there is any way to stiffen up the kit now or make it more durable in any way. Is there a hardening agent or even something i could add to the backside to stiffen it up more. My nieghbor offered to make metal braces for the corners but I would like to stiffen up the whole thing. please help!!!!

You can buy the fiberglass mesh and resin then add it to the back to make it thicker and stronger. Adding the metal peices or even wood will be even better as long as you cover them completely so that it won't rust or rot.

that or there are some companies if you have one in your area that can actually spray fiber glass on the inside to harden it up a buddy of mine had it done but i'd say go with the fiberglass mesh and do it that way

You'll have to check around in your area, but it is usually quite expensive. It may also be called fiberglass cloth. You could try going to a marine supply store and ask (they might be least expensive cause they use a lot). They use it to repair boat hulls.

i have sub contracted companys to do balconys for me. they do it with a fiberglass mesh, like a grid pattern 1/4" x 14" square's this is easier to use because of the air bubble problem,, try a building materials yard in your area, thgey may have several different options. or just type the word fiberglass in google, alot of dist's there

I lined the lower lip of it with a small cut of wood as was recommended and then fiberglassed that to the bottom lip of the kit. From there I fabricate the metal braces with the assistance of my neighbor. I then skrewed the brace to the car and screwed the other end to the wooden reinforcement that we installed. From that it stiffened up very significantly but to further the durability I added some more fiberglass to the tabs that held it to the car and added some more to other questionable reason. So the lesson I learned was don't buy cheap kits, if you do you will spend roughly $100 to re-ensure its durability or else loss it down the road. thanks for the help
