Default Fiberglass trunk Bord

Since I mounted the giant compressor in my trunk for my train horn, I had to take out the trunk board. so I was thinking about making a custom fiberglass trunk board that would fit over the compresser tank and cover everything up. I was wondering how many layers of fiberglass would be sufficient to support items that I may load in the trunk (backpacks and stuff). Here's a pic of the compressor tank.

It's quite the story to tell though, I have to admit. Right on man!

Though, no idea about your fiberglass question

EDIT: How freakin' illegal is that?

Lol, well I originally had a really small 1 gal 120 psi compressor. Then I sold it and decided to upgrade to the biggest thing I could get (for not too much) So I would never need to upgrade again. So I got a 14gal tank, 2 viair 380c compressors (200psi) and a 1/2" valve. I did the whole install my self. I got all of it for $360 on ebay from siegeengineering (that's including shipping). And yes I was thinking about getting airbags/cylinders, but I really don't have the money right now. I'm planning on it eventually though. That was another reason for getting the huge tank. It's great cause I have a switch to turn off the compressors if I want and it won't run out of air for a while. If any of you have not already seen it check out my train horn video on my youtube chanel: http://www.youtube.com/ltkenbo
It's not illegal to have it on my car. While disturbing the peace may be, that's a subjective law. Let me just put it this way, I was at walmart (a few miles away from my house) and I honked it and my sister called me from my house and asked me if I was right down the street, lol. And anyone in my town knows its me because there's no trains in the part of town I live. Anyways, if anyone does know about the fiberglass thing let me know. It would make things look a lot neater in the trunk and give me a place to put things.

If you want to know more about the train horn and stuff PM me or check out the original thread with more pics: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_330730/tm.htm

For a fiberglass floor, you would only need 2 or 3 layers..you can really do as many as you want, just check out the stiffness after its dryed. For my sub box it was about 8 layers and I can stand on it and jump.

ya you cannt realy go by layers cause it depends on the thickness of the mat........
i used like 3layers on my trucks fiberglass floor and its hard enough to jump up and down on BUT its also some THICK weave and mat material....

id say cover the trunk area in aluminum foil and tape and start glassing.... do about 2 layers until its hard enough so it will hold its shape and pull it out and see how hard it is.... tho if ya can start out with using some MDF or something and glass over it cause fiberglass and resin isnt cheap but MDF is
PERSONALY what i would do is get some small tanks and put them DOWN in the spare tire area that way you will have more area to put stuff and kinda hide the tanks.... just put the compressors on the sides of the car to keep them outta the way...

i wanted some air struts for my civic BUT after thinking about it for awhile i just said screw it and bought some drop springs and struts.... tho id still love to have air struts BUT only if i won the lottery.
but if i did have enough cash id make my own air tank to fit flush in the spare tire area.... nothing some steel and welder cannt make

Well I don't really wanna buy more tanks so what I might do is use mdf more the main trunk board part and then fiberglass for the top of the tank that sticks up. Plus that would be a good project that wouldn't be to big for someone who hasn't had any experience with fiberglassing. The space isn't a big issue to me I just want something that is going to look neater, more showroom like if you know what I mean. Right now the trunk board and everything is already out except for the side molded carpet on the walls, so.
