I have a 98 Civic HX CVT, im needing to do a 5spd transmission swap for it. My question is...if i buy those ebay glow gauges for a mtx it would cover up the PND21 on the automatic gauge right? or will it not work at all? Oh and EX and HX uses the same gauge right since they both have tachs??

 

While i have my post here.....another question.... Obviously when i do swap my transmission i will get a CEL because the TCU will not be hooked up anymore; however, since my car is an HX its hard to find a Manual ECU for it. So i was wondering would hondata or something of that nature be able to "Hide" the CEL?

 

I believe there's a way to convert your auto ecu to a manual ecu, but I'm not sure if you can do it with obdII ecus or not (I'd assume you can but I'm not sure).

And I didn't know hx's had tachs, but if they do, then yes, the ex and hx use the same guages. And yes, the guage faces would work fine and cover up the gear indicator lights.

 

I got an hx also wanted to swap the CVT for a manual but heard its cheaper to jus trade in for one...how much you think its gonna cost you around?

 

What do you mean trade in for one? Like trade the CVT for another CVT? Nah...everything i read says the CVT is unreliable so i dont want to risk buying a used one and have it break again.Brand new or rebuiltCVT will run about $1500-1800. As far as the cost of going manual, i calculated to be around $800 probably $900 after misc stuff. The bulk of the cost being a $200 transmission(non EX i beleive its from a CX civic so it has the same long gear as an actual 5spd HX would have. GREAT for gas(-; ) and i think i calculated around $300 for exedy clutch and lightend flywheel(could go cheaper if needed). The rest is like clutch pedal, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder,lines, etc. Labor will all be done by me and probably some other ppl so its free. Obviously im sticking with the original ECU thats why i ask if there is a way to reprogram (hide) just the cel for the TCU. so that makes it cheaper too. The only pain in the swap is probably the custom mount for the transmission as no one that i know of makes a ATX to MTX mount for the HX.

^ yup, you just need a manual P2N, then you won't have a CEL. And you can get any cluster from 96-00 and it will fit in your car, just look for an EX cluster for a manual transmission, that way you won't even have to worry about covering up the PRND21.

Also my experience with the ebay gauge covers was bad. Burnt out in just a few months, use addiction2bass's custom LED gauge DIY over there in the DIY Section if you want some NICE custom LED gauges of whatever color you want. I've got them and they look great.
