lol at step 12.
"Verify the system is working by turning on the lights."

and then step 13
"Reconnect the battery."

How are you supposed to check the lights by turning them on when the battery is disconnected?

Don't remove the needles? Then explain to me, and him, how the hell you get the gauges on.
Everyone is saying NO, but not attempting to help him get it done. All the sites I have found on this topic all say the same damn thing. Someone make a valid point. Educate me, educate him. Educate everyone who may be looking into doing this.

dont remove the needles because 1: you will break them 2: when you put them back on they will never work the same if they even work.
3: they are calibrated and when you remove the needles they are no longer calibrated
the aftermarket covers are meant to slip over the needles. point all needles up and slip over from the top.

I cannot guarantee this because I have no personal experience with this, but i'm pretty damn sure Punisher is right. Just think about it... if you only slipped the gauge over the needles instead of removing the needles, then you would have the edge of the cutout in the middle of the gauge face showing because it would not be concealed by the round plastic at the inside end of the needle. Now that would not make sense.

However, I believe that 94civichatchback is correct when he says that the needles are calibrated. I have heard of people doing this and their speedometer never worked the same again... always off by a little bit.

I still would not recommend doing it.
