Help With Amps...
I just recieved my two new 12' Kicker subs (each one is 800 Watts Peak, 400 W RMS) and they are 2 ohm subs. I'm now looking for an amp, but I have a few questions.
1. If it says 800w x 1 @ 2 ohms, does that mean if I hook it up to 2 subs that number splits in half to 400w x 2 @ 2 ohms?
2. If I underpower the subs by like 50-100W RMS, will that damage my subs?
3. What class of amp is best suited to power 2 subs?
Sorry I don't know much about car audio.

u need to also check how mony voice coils your subs hve.
i suggest u check crutchfield.com they have alot of info regarding thes issses.
1. yes, it splits in half wich means u need to equal half of the total rms power of ur amp to one of your subwoofers, so that both subs total the same amount of rms power ur amp can hold.
2. no it will not damage ur subs, but the chances of you blowing them up by accident are alot more, and you wont get to max out ur subs. now if you match them exactly you will get all the power/juice out of ur subs. they will kick alot harder. (MAX KICK)
3. it depends on what you want it to sound like. do you want more voice, more bass. all in one????
i have 2-12" ALPINE subs with dual voice coils at 4 ohms with 400 rms power each.
i have a BOSS 1600 watt amplifier 2channel with max 800 rms power
do you see the MATH???
my subs both put out 400 each, wich equals 800
my amps total wattage in 1600 watts, but that means nothing, real power is called RMS. the total RMS power is the aqctual power an amp or subs will put out

Thanks for the answers, and ya I want deep bass but undistored voice and beat. I was thinking of getting a Kicker amp too, just because everyone tells me Kicker's the best, but does it really matter? Is there a huge difference between quality depending on what brand you buy?
yes quality is everything. if your amp is putting out distortion then doesnt matter how good your subs sound. you want to look for a low thd. thats the distortion ratio, lower the better. And it really doesnt matter who you go with just as long as its not junk. my suggestion is to go jl audio, or ppi if you really want quality. but thats your choice boss. As long as you have quality equipment you will never have issues... hope this helped.. take care.
IM kinda partial to PPI Amps with JL Audio Subs....... clean, hard hitting, make your eyes blurry kind of bass. BUT it also comes down to the style of box you've got or want to use... (Bandpass, sealed, ported, or a variation on them) Im currently under-driving my subs pretty much BIGTIME... they are Cerwin Vega DVC 10's (i forget the model # off hand) With an Orion HCCA 225 (not 225r) Its super crisp, and HARD... Its enough to make your ears bleed, unless its dialed back to where i keep it lol.
And on a seperate topic...Has anyone ever noticed the frequency of typos increases exponetially, the more you drink? LOL took me 20mins to type all this after 5 Cranberry & Vodkas

well u know what they say, u pay for what you get. So i recommend not getting just anything, look in to some not so popular brands then if your not wanting to spend too much money on ur system.
and you need to be looking for 800 watts total RMS amp. not 400 by 2ohms
u need to look for 800rms at 2ohms.
