holes in the floorpan + replacing carpet
I found a hole in the floor of my car. It's kind of strange. Anyway, I have no idea how to fix it. The metal appears to have been pierced, or more specifically, there's a plastic shield below the floorpan that has been pierced and I can put my finger through the hole and through the floor pan so I can touch the carpet. I can't see any rust. There's also water in other parts of the carpet. I can't find any other holes.
What I want to do is remove the carpet. I don't know if anyone here has done rust hole repair to their floorpan. I don't know what to do other than ask around to places that do welding and tig weld or oxy-acetelene torch weld over the holes with a piece of sheet metal. Then, I would put a new carpet over that.
Anyone every replace their carpet? Is there something other than the carpet I need to buy ahead of time?

you need to buy the carpet that is molded to your cars shape, you cant just go out and buy some stuff at a fabric store, and ya, i no a couple people who have done this, usually they just get a piece of metal and weld it down and seal it up..thats how they pass safety
There was a guy who did a plug for his carpet company and I checked it out and it seemed like a geat deal... fabricated specific to your car and you can choose a color... I asked for a sample and they sent it within the week... I think a mod took it off because he didnt want to be a vendor or something...
I know you need to get carpet for your specific model of car. What I was asking was if there was some other stuff you need, like padding, sound insulation glue, carpet holder pieces.
Im not sure most of the carpets come with padding kinda and I am going to be doing this same thing in a couple of weeks and I bought some of the phat mat off ebay and it looks good. Identical to the other expensive one that I bought for my license plate lol.....for some reason I cant think of the name now...... But I am going to be putting the phat mat down and then the carpet on top of that......As for the carpet holder pieces couldnt you just reuse the old ones? Or do you need new ones?
:Edit: Scratch that the fatmat that I was going to order now is out of business and from the feedback I guess im lucky they did. Look like now I am either going with eDead V1 / Sound Destroyer / Or Power Mat....... Not sure yet. Also not to jack your thread or anything but does anyone know the amount of sound mat I would need to do the floor and trunk of my car? Average for a civic hatch back atleast.
