Default How to deal with rust?

Hi,

I have bought a 2001 Honda Civic, my first car. I know that rust is bad for the cars so I want to deal with it as soon as possible and I want to do it myself to avoid additional major costs. I have attached the picture of the rusty spot on the hood-- could someone recommend me how should I fix it? I really appreciate your help.

Maybe get some touch-up paint from the Honda dealer. Its only about 8-9 bucks. You will need to first remove the paint that is peeling up.

"replace hood its dented"

Word. Hood, side fender, door, and trunk rust are best dealt long term by just replacing them. And it's so easy if you can find and afford the parts.
But depending where you are replacing these can be a B, so, here's an alternative. Sand down to the metal so it looks like all the rust is gone. Grab some rust neutralizing spray, coating, whatever, but NOT POR 15! It's not paint friendly. Let that "cure" for the period it says to, usually no more than a day. Light sand, primer, dry, light sand, primer, dry, paint, dry, paint, dry, paint, dray.
Good luck! Hood rust by the way is not super critical unless you're worried about asthetics. I know Minnesota dumps salt so it will get worse next winter, fast.

I have an 01 too... actually in the shop for rust. I would attempt myself but the windshield had to be removed. They sandblasted and blew holes through the metal now they're replacing it with fiberglass. Anyway... other rust I just sanded off, primed, and painted. Doesn't look professional but it's 10 years old and I can't afford a lot of professional. With a hood... chances are like mine the rust is in the crimping on the edges in which case there's nothing you can do. I'm going to replace my hood this summer.

I have a huge rust area on the driver side door of my car... would it be best to just replace the door? Also I have paint on my bumper that the clear coat is peeling off. What is the best way to stop the clear coat from coming off?

alot cheapier and better to just replace and repaint door from junkyard

to help protect you need to wax and buff your car i would suggest at least 4 times a year
