Ike broke my hood...
Here are some pics of what the shattered branch did to my hood. This is the improved version. I was able to pop a couple of them out.

What do you guys think? My deductable is $500. Should I bother with insurance? Should I fix it myself? (I don't even know how to start...) Should I go for a carbon fiber hood, even though it's a little ricey for a stock engine?

well it will probably cost around 500bucks to replace/paint the hood. i would keep away from insurnace than. buy a hood off ebay and take it to a body shop to have it painted OR spend the extra money and buy one already painted your color...

if you buy the hood from the dealership then go with the insurance.LOL

I figure no matter what I do, it'll be around $500. I'm just so tempted to try a carbon fiber hood, but I'm not sure which style to get or where to buy a quality one. I don't mind getting another stock one of the same color, but I have an opportunity to do a big style change.
And there's no way I'm gonna buy anything from the dealership unless it's a life or death situation. I'll go aftermarket or OEM style anytime. I don't care who made it as long as it's sturdy and looks clean on the car.

well you could always fix your hood as well... some sandpaper and some plastic filler and a sanding block and time
its not completly trashed at least so that can be fixed.
or just try out a carbon fiber hood. just get a good brand one for good fitment!

I added a poll to get more input. I hope people actually check this thread more than they check my progress thread. That one gets ignored.
Yeah, Certifit would be GREAT if there were a store close to me. Closest one is in Oklahoma City. I used to live there, but that was 10 years ago. I have no reason to go back.
Anyone know good places to get carbon fiber hoods and what brands will actually fit right?

I vote carbon. but just know before you buy it that its a lot of work to keep up with and keep it shiny. and even harder to get it back to shiny after it dulls out. I learned that the hard way. but if you dont mind waxing the hood every couple of weeks then go for the carbon.
from what ive heard about CF hoods its best is VIS.....
i looked into them along time ago but never bought one....
but you can figure if it does dull out and you cannt shine it up.... just sand and paint it
if i ever had my insurance pay for a new hood i would get a VIS CF hood.
