Default Just debadged the Civic...

...and I wish I hadn't.
[sm=badidea.gif]

I followed the Debadging 101 DIY pretty much to the letter. It's a good DIY, works just right. Ididn't anticipate any problems, but I didn't realize that the "Civic" emblem that I have is a 7th gen emblem on a 6th gen Civic until too late. Never assume anything about a car if you aren't the first owner.

It looks like someone debadged it poorly before and then later painted over the glue spotsinstead of cleaning it off first. It looks terrible without the plastic to hide it. There are chunks of paint missing and you can see the original layer of paint beneath it. You don't even have to look close to be able to read "Civic _X".

I'll upload some pictures as soon as I can find the USB cable.

Now... what glue do I need to use to put the emblems back on?

i don't understand; why did you have a 7th gen badge on your 6th gen? And why is there paint missing?? What did you use to take the badges off?

I don't understand either, but I'm the second or third owner of this car. Anything could have happened to it because I have no clear history. I do know that it was totalled before it was rebuilt, but that would only explain the front end. My paint situation will become VERY obvious once I post some pictures. I'll show you the comparison shots I got. I know for sure that I didn't overheat the emblems and mess the paint up. I used dental floss and heatto remove the emblems, exactly like you are supposed to. This just drives me crazy. I could easily sand the trunk lid down and repaint it, but I don't have any paint and I don't have the money to get it done professionally yet.

Oh man, that sucks! I've used double stick tape (3M mounting tape actually) cut to the shape of the emblem to stick them on. It worked pretty well, held up through storms and car washes just fine.

I had to drive awhile to pick up my cord, but I finally got the pics up. (Don't worry about the trunk lid being crooked. I know why it doesn't line up.)

Here is where I started.

Here is where I ended. Note the outline of the Civic logo. It's the 6th gen outline.

Here is where there are chunks missing from the paint under the LX emblem.

Here is a closeup of what was under the 7th gen Civic emblem.

Lucky for me, my old Civic DX was parked right beside it. Here is a comparison between the 6th and 7th gen emblems. Note the difference, and note how the damaged paint on my LX looks just like the 6th gen one.

At this point, I didn't know what else to do. Seeing as though I had emblems in hand, I figured I might as well have fun with them. I stuck them to the dash along with the Honda emblem from the front that fell off months ago. I guess that except for the Honda emblem on the back, it really is pretty much debadged.

I didn't like it so much, so as I was driving to get my camera cord, I had a better idea.

And that's how it looks right now. On another note, if anyonecan tell me why my glove box hangs at an angle, I'd love to know. The hinges don't look bent.

underneath will be 2 screws.. tighten them up.. the left one is loose. Either that or its come off its runner thing.. in which case, undo both screws take it and refit it.

that doesn't look like it was painted over or anything, looks like there's just extra glue, use goo-gone and a bunch of elbow grease to get it off

It took me 30 minutes of elbow grease and goo gone to get to that point. I promise you, it's paint on top of old glue. I scratched some off after I took the pictures.

wow man you did some damage; maybe a small can of touch up paint and some clear coat plus a wax/buff and you might be good. As for the emblems on your interior, i think the "H" and "CIVIC" would look good but i'd leave the LX outta there [:'(]
