Maybe I'm just an idiot, but how do I install a new shift knob?

Default Maybe I'm just an idiot, but how do I install a new shift ****?

Ok guys I'm having some problems with something that doesn't seem like it should be this difficult. I can't seem to find anything useful on Google OR YouTube!

Just got an '08 Civic last weekend. Didn't have a shifter ****, but I figured whatever. Easy aftermarket fix, right?

So I went to Walmart and found a shifter that I like. Bought it and took it home. Removed the electrical tape from the shifter stem (or whatever it's called) and cleaned the threads. Checked the instructions so I don't jack anything up.

Here's the stick, waiting for a new ****.

Here's the **** I got. Yeah it's from Walmart, bash on it if you want. But it's visually clean, inexpensive, and fits my hand.

Here's the thing that will go on the bottom of it. I'm not sure how this is supposed to be arranged with the skirt/boot/whatever it's called, but I guess I'll get to that later. All I know is it goes onto the bottom of the ****.

Here are the spacers that came with the ****.

The instructions read:
1.) Push insert into ****.
2.) Insert set screws but do not tighten.
3.) Install **** onto shift column.
4.) Tighten set screws.
That's it. Those are the instructions. With only four instruction bullets, I can't believe it's a complicated process.

Problem is, the dang inserts aren't going on to the column. Do I arrange the insert with the ribs on the top or the bottom? Do I just need to MAKE it go on and let the metal threads tap into the plastic?

I think I'm just being retarded and overthinking it. Could someone give me some pointers?

There are no threads on the inside of the ****, in case anybody's about to be like "just screw it on, dumbass!"

the insert sits around the threads like a hat, this way the **** isn't sitting loose. Then take an allen wrench and tighten down each set screw evenly to prevent it from mounting crooked.
