need some advice on mods
hey guys, i just got a 2001 Honda Civic EX Sedan, and i was wondering if anybody had any advice on where to start with it. I have a fairly decent budget right now, so just let me know what you would stick on it and i'll make some decisions from there.
Thanks
Thanks
Welcome to the forums, bro...
anyway, My04, he posted this in the appearance section, so I'm assuming he wants advice on appearance mods lol.
I'd say the first thing you'll want to get as far as appearance is new wheels.Wheels really make or break a car. I really don't recommend getting anything bigger than 17" for a daily driver. Even with 17's, the ride quality is sacrificed a little, but is still liveable (trust me, I have 17's). After wheels, I'd say get lowering springs, especially if you get 17's (the wheel gap isabout 2.5" or so in the front if you get 17's). Most people around here will recommend Tein S-techs (a little under a 2" drop). After that, I'd say choose either a lip kit or a body kit. A lot of people will tell you not to go with a body kit because kits are ricy, but I beg to differ. If the kit flows with the car, it can look great. I personally have a Mugen style front lip (currently... I used to have a body kit), and I'm going to be buying another 5th gen that will be donning my old R34 kit. Honestly, I think both lip kits and body kits can look great (provided it's not something like the drift kit lol). Just remember; it's your ride. Buy things you like, and rock the hell out of them.
Also, like My04 said, get an intake, header, and cat-back exhaust. They really do help with performance
Here's some (very)general prices to help you out. You'll find both cheaper and more expensive prices, but these seem to be around the average:
Wheels: around $700, give or take. Try someplace like http://www.edgeracing.com/.. I got my 17's with tires (mounted, balanced, etc.) for around $650, including shipping
Lowering Springs: $125-$200
Lip Kit:$80 for a front lip, $90 or so for a rear lip, usually $100+ for sides. Personally, I wouldn't get aftermarket sides for a lip kit; the stocks look fine.
Body Kit: $500 for fiberglass (My kit is/was fiberglass and I never had problems with it, but I've heard and seen some pretty horrific things), $750+ for urethane. Urethane is almost always perfect-fitting, and d4mn near indestructable
Intake: anywhere from$50 for a generic Short-Ram to $250+ for a good Cold-Air Intake
Header: $150 for a good brand (Hedmen, Edelbrock, Megan Racing)... or, you can pay $300+ for the same quality from DC
Exhaust: around $200 for a custom-bent system, including the cost of the muffler; $400+ for a good cat-back

To add on to Reaper's last one (which was a great write up, too bad we dont give rep points on the forum)... I recommend supporting other forum members in the ForSale sections and also the HCF vendors like WestImports... he has your lowering springs and intakes for great prices. I'd say just get a couple lips and a skirt on the side, nothing over the top because our sedans are beautiful... subtle lines like the mugen lip are soo nice on our sedans. You should DIY your headlights to black out the housings, not the covers themselves... there should be a DIY posted, if not, I'll tell you how, it is super easy and just look at my sig or my photo album to see what I am talking about... .also, HIDs! Dont waste your money on silverstars and nokyas... get HIDs. Also, DO NOT put altezzas on your sedan, I did and I am ashamed. Get some JDM or TDM style tails and that'll look really great with black housed headlights.
