Painting Trim Pieces
600grit is good. thats what i typically use before i paint. 1K grit is like a piece of paper and takes a very long time sanding.LOL
if your scared of scratches you can always promote and primer them and then sand them with finer sand paper if you wish for the smoothest look. but IMO 600grit is just fine. you can always try and paint the one medium trim piece with 600 and the other piece with the 1K grit and paint them both and see if you can see a difference. i dont think you will be able to

i've read somewhere that they dont recommend sanding the door molding because it will look gritty since its plastic. so i should spray some plastic paint promoter, primer, base paint, then clear?
also another question, should i keep the lip i have right now or should i get a type r front lip?

still undecided whether to go with type r or my tsunami T1 front lip. i actually had a couple people that commented and pm'd me saying they like it and asked me about it. the type r gives my car a cleaner look and i can also get the type r rear lip also, to get the full lip kit look. for the current lip it give the front end a more aggressive look, which i kind of like.
still you need to do it. when i got my new plastic bumper for my civic i just cleaned it down with some strong cleaner and primered and sealed it and well 5-6omnths later i could spray off most of the primer/sealer with a normal garden hose!
so unless you want to do it all over again in a few months... go the extra mile and make it last!
