Default rims primer

I'm getting ready to paint my rims and bought some supplies at auto zone. they were out of the primer I was going to get, so I bought sandable primer. The guy said it would work fine as long as I sand the rims first befor putting it on. Which I was going to do anyways. Anyone else use the sandable primer with good results? Should I get a different primer or will this be ok?

I also bought 400 grit sandpaper is this going to be too fine? Should it be more roughed up for the primer to adhere better?

Thanks.
